Characterizing Belief with Minimum Commitment

چکیده
We describe a new approach for reasoning with belief functions in this paper. This approach is fundamentally unrelated to probabilities and is consistent with Shafer and Tversky's canonical examples.

Cautious Conjunctive Merging of Belief Functions
When merging belief functions, Dempster rule of combination is justified only when information sources can be considered as independent. When this is not the case, one must find out a cautious merging rule that adds a minimal amount of information to the inputs. Such a rule is said to follow the principle of minimal commitment. Some conditions it should comply with are studied. A cautious mergi...
متن کاملPartially Specified Belief Functions
This paper presents a procedure to determine a complete belief function from the known values of belief for some of the subsets of the frame of discerment. The method is based on the principle of minimum commitment and a new principle called the focusing principle. This additional principle is based on the idea that belief is specified for the most relevant sets: the focal elements. The resulti...
متن کاملSome Conditions for Characterizing Minimum Face in Non-Radial DEA Models with Undesirable Outputs
The problem of utilizing undesirable (bad) outputs in DEA models often need replacing the assumption of free disposability of outputs by weak disposability of outputs. The Kuosmanen technology is the only correct representation of the fully convex technology exhibiting weak disposability of bad and good outputs. Also, there are some specific features of non-radial data envelopment analysis (DEA...
متن کاملUnit commitment by a fast and new analytical non-iterative method using IPPD table and “λ-logic” algorithm
Many different methods have been presented to solve unit commitment (UC) problem in literature with different advantages and disadvantages. The need for multiple runs, huge computational burden and time, and poor convergence are some of the disadvantages, where are especially considerable in large scale systems. In this paper, a new analytical and non-iterative method is presented to solve UC p...
متن کاملIdempotent conjunctive combination of belief functions: Extending the minimum rule of possibility theory
When conjunctively merging two belief functions concerning a single variable but coming from different sources, Dempster rule of combination is justified only when information sources can be considered as independent. When dependencies between sources are ill-known, it is usual to require the property of idempotence for the merging of belief functions, as this property captures the possible red...
